2023 Men’s Senior Pennant

Following an incident related to the “Stopping a Bowl”, the BDBA have taken time to clarify its position. I thank all those involved for this work. The District stance on the issue is detailed in the BDBA Conditions of Play (page 6), available on the BDBA website. We are all still getting used to this new rule given our old ‘bad habits’, but this information helps clarify the situation as it applies to the Men’s Senior Pennant competition.

Most importantly, it has to be made clear that if a challenge is made (by the Side Manager) to the umpire because a player has stopped a live bowl (for whatever reason), then the only outcome the umpire can take is to disqualify that player’s team and declare a forfeit.

I ask all to convey this to all your players prior to this week’s matches. I also ask that you remind them that the game is far more enjoyable when proper courtesy, etiquette and sportsmanship is applied.
